The Department of Natural Resources Management presents a special seminar by Dr. Tracy Langkilde on Wednesday, De. 9th beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Goddard 101.
According to Dr. Tracy Langkilde of Penn State University, non-native species introductions are becoming increasingly common, but we know remarkably little about the long-term consequences of the novel pressures invaders impose on the native species they encounter. The red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta, is an invasive species of potential global consequence. Dr. Langkilde examined how interactions between this novel antagonist and a native lizard, Sceloporus undulatus, change across invasion time.

Dr. Jennifer Moore-Kucera, a professor with Texas
Tech's Department of Plant & Soil Science, will discuss the role of
soil microorganisms in performing critical ecosystem functions such as
C and N dynamics in a variety of ecosystems. She will provide an
overview of past and current research projects in an effort to
illustrate the application of a suite of microbial tools in ecological
studies involving both natural and managed systems.

NRM Graduate Students Honored by ARCS
NOVEMBER 2, 2009– The Lubbock chapter of Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) has named two Natural Resources Management graduate students to its list of top young researchers.
PhD candidates Anthony Giordano and Jon McRoberts were selected by ARCS to receive scholarship support for their research efforts. The scholarship awards were presented to sixteen science students at Lubbock Christian University and Texas Tech.

Scholarship Opportunity for Freshmen in Natural Resources Management
AUGUST 13, 2009– The Texas Wildlife Association Foundation (TWAF) and the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. (SALE) have joined forces to offer four $10,000 Natural Resource-Excellence in Education Scholarships in the fall of 2009. The scholarships will be awarded to four freshmen at Texas universities who are majoring in a natural resource-related field such as agricultural science, wildlife science, forestry, range science, etc.
Completed applications are due by September 14, 2009, and an application can be obtained at www.texas-wildlife.org.
