Males have well-developed voices, most likely related to breeding
sites and season, which can increase the ability to mate with potential females. Voice is
loud, and the number of croaks averaging 75 or 80 a minute (Stebbins, 1951). Their mating
calls can be heard half a mile away or more. The voice has a rolling trill like the purr
of a cat (Behler & King, 1996). |
