The Western Spadefoot toad ranges from Arizona, New Mexico, parts of southern Colorado and western Oklahoma south into Mexico (Behler & King, 1996). The Western Spadefoot toad is also found in many parts of Texas as shown below. The Spadefoot toad is also scarce in some portions of California.
