The Western Spadefoot toad was thought to have been rare, however, this is due to their nocturnal nature. However, when breeding season is apparent, they are said to be numerous. Overall amphibians have been proposed as threatened for future generations. One cause is from habitat destruction, such as loss and/or alterations. Since amphibians skin is highly permeable, they are vulnerable to pesticide sprays (Beebee, 1996). Another concern for amphibians includes atmospheric pollution such as acid rain, ozone damage, and of course human predation, mostly for frog legs and some accidental (Beebee, 1996).
