The hunting season on Scaled Quail in Texas is the same as Northern Bobwhites (Colinus virginianus). The season usually opens in November and closes in February. One of the key management issuses is that Scaled Quail can survive in weedy habitat too dry for Northern Bobwhites. Management steps are being made to help the Scaled quail. The ground is being disturbed to allow weedy vegetation to grow. Wind breaks are being planted for habitat, and corridors, such as overgrown fence rows, are being left alone. A good crop of Broomweed (Amphiachyris dracunculodes) in pricky pear flats also provide good cover , food and room to run. The distribution of Scaled Quail cover a large area in southwest United States covering 8 possibly 9 states (Distribution Map, Fig.A).
