Red fox are found through out most of the
United States and Canada. In Texas the red fox was introduced in the east and central
parts of the state. Now the fox ranges across central Texas from the eastern part of the
state to central Trans-Pecos region (www.nsrl). Fox home ranges tend to be about twice as long as they are wide and are often
influenced by habitat types (Samuel and Nelson 1982). The abundance of food, the degree of
competition, the diversity of habitat, and the presence of natural barriers may affect a
home range of a fox (Chapman and Feldhamer). Female red fox reduce movement when they give
birth to a litter of pups. .
