The main causes of death for the red fox would be hunting, trapping, road kill, and farm machinery (Chapman and Feldhamer). Typically there are few foxes that live beyond the age of 3 or 4 years, particularly in areas where they are hunted and trapped (www.nsrl). Juveniles have a higher mortality rate than do adults (Chapman and Feldhamer). In June when juveniles are wandering from the den is when they killed by farm equipment or get ran over by a car.
