The distribution of the mule deer ranges sporadically throughout the Texas panhandle, but the populations of animals are fairly small. The Mule Deer occurs over the Trans-Pecos and Panhandle regions of Texas and in some area immediately east thereof, partly as a result of introductions (Davis and Schmidly, 1994). As for the rest of the United States the mule deer occurs in the Northern Rock Mountain; at the mouth of the Columbia River; in the southwest in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona; and in Mexico (Wilson and Ruff, 1999). In mountainous areas, mule deer usually are migratory, spending the warmer months in higher elevations (Wilson and Ruff, 1999).
