Major populations of lynx are found throughout Canada, in western Montana and in parts of Idaho and Washington. ( Poole, 1984). Smaller populations appear in New England, Utah, Oregon, and Wyoming. Lynx inhabit the entire Yukon with the exception of the arctic coastal plain. They are most active during the night and the twilight of dawn and dusk. Their sense of smell is poor, their hearing is good, and their eyes are well adapted for hunting in low light (Rue III, 1981).
