Reproduction:

The dominant male copulates with most of the females
in the herd.  During the breeding season, an adult male peccary
forms a short tending bond with the estrous female that lasts from
a few hours to several days (Low 1970; Bissonette 1976).  During
this period the male will stay within a few meters so no other males
will try and breed her. Conflict between males at this time was not
much more than during non-breeding times. They have been recorded
breeding throughout the year but mostly the young are born in April
through July.  They have a gestation period of about 140 to 150 days.
Males reach sexual maturity around 11 months and females shortly
after.  Sex ratio in Texas is usually about 55% females and 45% males
with females having around 2 offspring per litter.
