Literature

The Texas Horned Lizards greatest threat to it extinction is habitat loss and people. Use of pesticides is also a huge problem that effects the survival of the Texas Horned Lizards. (Brooks, 1998) The imported fire ants are creating a huge problem for the Horned Lizard also. (Brooks, 1998) The red ants as they are commonly called create two problems to the survival of the horned lizard. The first is the red ants kill the harvester ants of the genus Pygonomyrmex, which is the horned lizards favorite food. (Blackspear & Richardson, 1999) The second is that these ants create huge underground passages, which effect the nests of the Lizards. Agricultural developments and urban development also have huge effects on the Texas Horned Lizards.
