The Great Horned owl is abundantly found from northern Alaska to the tip of South America. See Figure 2 for the range in North and South America. The owl is considered non-migratory, but the Canadian species will migrate to the northern United States in the colder months. The owl will change territories in response to the population cycles of their prey (O.W.L. unknown). Habitat can vary widely from dense forest, cliffs, and foothill ravines to open grasslands and deserts.
