Copperheads are heavily concentrated in East Texas (Ditmars and Litt 1948). They are found in ten counties in the Trans-Pecos area and in only one county in the southern panhandle (See Fig. D, Disk 2 (University of Texas 2000)). The copperheads prefer a range of dry habitats.
