Current Management Status
Few other birds have such a wide distribution as the barn owl and globally it is still an extremely abundant species. Only in some parts of Europe and North America is there a genuine conservation problem, although some subspecies inhabiting smaller islands might also be experiencing difficulties. The extent of population decline, its exact causes and possible remedies vary considerably from place to place and it is difficult to provide an exhaustive treatment covering all regions. To be successful, a conservation program for barn owls must ultimately establish a set of environmental conditions that result in viable self-sustaining populations. |
