Habitat
The red wolves habitat historically
consisted of mountainous, lowland forests and wetlands. The reintroduced
populations are located in remote swamplands and mountainous terrain (animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/).
Main populations are in captive breeding facilities through out the US. It
was noted in 1993 in the USFWS red book that there were 16 animals in the
Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.
Dens of red wolves are located in
hollow tree trunks, stream banks, abandoned dens of other animals and other
areas that will provide adequate hiding for the new pups.
