Diet
Red wolves diets consist of medium
sized mammals that occur in abundance in their range. In Texas and Louisiana
the wolves fed primarily on nutria, rabbits and carrion. Studies have shown
that the wolves consume a large number of white tail deer. (U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service 1993) Red wolf home range is generally ten to one hundred
square miles.
Red wolves tend
to hunt an area for seven to ten days then switch to another range for the same length of time.
