Diet

Red wolves diets consist of medium sized mammals that occur in abundance in their range. In Texas and Louisiana the wolves fed primarily on nutria, rabbits and carrion. Studies have shown that the wolves consume a large number of white tail deer. (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 1993) Red wolf home range is generally ten to one hundred square miles.

Red wolves tend to hunt an area for seven to ten days then switch to another range for the same length of time.
