Pintails are noted for their use of large expanses of shallow, open wetland habitats.

Gradual flooding and draining of impoundments at appropriate times during spring and fall migration create optimal foraging opportunities. Stable water levels are undesirable during this time. Some areas of the managment area should be kept off limits from hunters, bird watchers, boats, as well as, managment activities.
