Management:

Fire and plowing are good management tools for northern harrier habitat. Areas with fire management keep trees and large shrubs from dominating the area and plowed fields usually increase the mice populations (Hamerstrom1986). It has also been suggested that the plowed fields make it easier for the harriers to hear the mice. Although this seems like a reasonable assumption it was not found in any of the research material used for this paper. The Northern Harrier is not listed as endangered or threatened in North America.
