Habitat:

Northern harriers are common in wetlands and open grasslands. In the winter, they form communal ground roosts (Hamerstrom 1986). In coastal and wetland areas, northern harriers occur at relatively high densities on reclaimed marshlands that are protected from extreme tides and areas managed for waterfowl habitat (Simmons 2000). On grassland areas, they are commonly found in wet meadows, sloughs, and playas (Heintzelman 1979).
