Description
The
Texas indigo snake (Drymarchon corais erebennus) is a large snake
averaging 152-213 cm with a record of 262.9 cm (Conant and Collins 1998).
They are a shiny bluish black with orangish brown on the sides of its head
along with dark stripes (Cannatella 2000). The front half of the snake on
close inspection may be mottled or banded with gray brown (Werler and
Dixon 2000). Scales are normally smooth, but males may posses a few rows
of keeled scales due to sexual maturity (Layne and Steiner 1984).
