In Texas, the breeding season for the gray fox begins in December and continues into March (Davis and Schmidly 1997).  Generally, they mate from January through April and have one litter annually of one to seven pups, which are born from March to May (Whitaker 1996).  Gestation is typically 53 days (Davis and Schmidly 1997).   Males become fertile before females and are fertile longer than females.  Most females are sexually mature at an age of ten months (Fritzell and Haroldson 1982).
