There are 12 recognized populations of Canada geese:  North Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic, Tennessee Valley, Mississippi Valley, Eastern Prairie, Western Prairie, Tallgrass Prairie, Shortgrass Prairie, Hi-line Plains, Intermountain, Northwest Coast, and Alaskan Canada geese (Bellrose1980, 142).  Each population has its own geographic range, and several of the ranges overlap.
