Habitat:
American
wigeons are found in wet prairies, wetlands, lakes, ponds and streams
(American Wigeon 2002). They
favor areas with the most extensive plant growth (Rusz 1985).
During breeding season wigeons prefer shallow lakes and marshy
sloughs surrounded by meadows lined with dry sedges (Waterfowl Gallery
2002). They choose upland
grassy habitat for their nesting sites (American Wigeon 2002).
