Diet:
American wigeons diets consist of
a variety of leaves, fruits, seeds and insects (American Wigeon 2002).
They feed on the leaves of aquatic plants, upland grasses, clovers
and agricultural crops. They also use the seeds of the agricultural crops and insects
that are found in their living area.
They spend a large amount of time on upland agricultural areas
during the winter and migration (Mowbray 1999).
When feeding in wetland habitats wigeon tend to feed at an
intermediate depth with moderate amounts of vegetative cover (De Roia
1993).
