Hello,
Research areas pursued by my graduate students involve range improvements and range ecology. Our research takes a variety of approaches to understanding and developing practical solutions to range improvement problems.

Currently, I have several students contrasting the effects of summer prescribed fires with what we know about dormant season fires. This research on summer burning has involved a total re-evaluation of scientific literature and searching historical data for seasonality of naturally occurring fires. There is little doubt that fires, which burned at times other than the dormant season, were much more damaging to some of our problem brush species.

Other areas of range management that we actively research include: (1) interactions of grazing animals and pasture vegetation; (2) protein supplementation of growing animals on dormant forage; (3) remote sensing; (4) improved grasses and pasture renovation; and (5) analysis of rangeland productivity and use.
