  National Park Service Research and management of wildlife on national parks and monuments; coordinates with Wild & Scenic Rivers System
  Bureau of Land Management Lead Agency for managing lands in public domain, primarily in western states; supervises multiple use, including wildlife, grazing, mining, recreation, timber, and watershed; about 55% of all federal lands under BLM
  Bureau of Indian Affairs Trust for grazing, timber, water, and other resource management including wildlife.
  Bureau of Reclamation Leads programs for water development in western states; wildlife management and recreation considered in reclamation projects.
Agriculture U.S.D.A. Forest Service Administers national forests and grasslands and wildlife thereon; research and management of all forest resources; fire protection and timber harvesta are major concerns; forest districts and regional experiment stations.
  Soil Conservation Service (now Natural Resources Conservation Service) Publishes soil surveys; provides data and technical assistance for soil and water conservation; no research activities; funds small watershed projects and assists with habitat development on private lands, organized conservation districts.
Commerce National Marine Fisheries Service Provides management, research, and other services for living marine resources, including mammals, incertebrates as well as marine fishes; lead agency in managing offshore development as component of NOAA.
Defense Army corps of Engineers Major responsibilities for dredging, stream stabilization, and other developments of navigable wates and coastal wetlands; issues dredge and fill permits under Section 404 of Clean Water Act.
